OUR HISTORY:

BMJ Engineers & Surveyors, Inc. has provided unmatched development expertise and services to local communities for over 50 years.

While working at the Michigan Department of Agriculture in the late 1960s, Darwin McLeod took great interest in reviewing consultants’ engineering plans for county drain projects. This work inspired him to utilize his own engineering design skills for county drain projects.

In 1970, McLeod connected with John Boldt from the Soil Conservation Service, and they founded a company known as BOL-MAC Engineering in Lansing, Michigan. McLeod’s vision to start an engineering consulting firm specializing in agricultural drainage and stormwater drainage had become a reality.

In September of 1971, BOL-MAC Engineering became incorporated and relocated to Port Huron, Michigan. Shortly after, the company decided to diversify its services, and Dan Johnson brought his background in municipal engineering to the firm in 1973. The firm became known as Boldt, McLeod & Johnson, Inc. (BMJ). Expanded civil engineering services included road design, sanitary sewers, water mains, and bridges. A variety of surveying services was also added.

Throughout the years, the company’s foundation in agricultural and stormwater drains led BMJ to become a leading drain expert in Michigan, working in many counties throughout the state. Many successful projects such as the Black River Inter-county Drain and the City of Port Huron’s Combined Sewer Overflow Program projects also positively impacted BMJ’s course of business while bettering its communities. With core specialties in civil engineering and surveying, BMJ’s portfolio of services has continued to grow and expand and today includes industrial facility engineering and materials testing.

By combining new technology, advanced design techniques, and environmental responsiveness, BMJ continues to provide exceptional expertise and services to its broad client base of government, private developers, industrial, and residential clients.
